For those of you who haven’t heard about it yet, Tom Cruise attacked Matt Lauer on the Today show. Angry about Ritalin’s abuse in America, Cruise launched into an attack on prescription drugs, based upon his beliefs in Scientology. What was most disturbing about the interview was the way Cruise verbally attacked Lauer, calling him “glib” at one point. Cruise claimed to have studied Psychiatry in depth and seemed to be claiming that no one else knew the topic like he did.
While I will be the first to agree that Ritalin can be abused and overprescribed, I don’t think that a celebrity should pit himself against the entire medical industry, making such large generalizations. If you want to make a difference in the world, Mr. Cruise, you need to do it level-headed. Attacking Matt Lauer because he has had friends that have been helped by Ritalin is not the way to go. Calm down and start acting normally.
