Alright, this needs to be said. Last night, we lost to Seton Hall, a team we should have beaten. Many have blamed it on the players. I agree, we don’t have the best players in the country. But they aren’t that bad. The problem is with our coaching. Yes yes, Jim Boeheim is a Hall of Fame coach and deserves a lot of respect. However, he makes dumb decisions. Instead of pulling a struggling Watkins (our center) and put in Matt Gorman, a player who can actually catch the ball, Boeheim stuck with Watkins. To make matters worse, with the game tied and 1:30 left in the game, Boeheim took us off the press and made the team to a zone defense, which had struggled with Seton Hall’s offense all night. Now, should the players have made more shots? Yes! But that wasn’t the only reason. Boeheim needs to re-evaluate the importance of a zone defense in an era where teams are nailing 3-point shots. I hope other students agree with me that the coaching was at fault this season. All being said, let’s go Orange!
