New Basketball Game: 21 Rebound

I have been working on this game for quite a while now and have hammered out the final details over the past few weeks with Eric. If you would like an official copy of the rules or have decided to use this game at school/work/YMCA etc., please contact me. 21 Rebound Summary 21 Rebound is a game that any basketball player can enjoy. It requires players to run after rebounds, allowing participants to get more exercise than in a game of H-O-R-S-E. There is also a great deal of strategy involved. A Round

  1. Player 1 shoots the ball from outside the 3-point line.
    1. If Player 1 makes the shot, Player 1 scores 2 points and shoots again.
    2. If Player 1 shoots and misses the rim, Player 2 scores 1 point and must rebound the ball.
    3. If Player 1 shoots and hits the rim, Player 2 must rebound the ball.
  2. Player 2 shoots the ball from where he or she rebounds the ball.
    1. If Player 2 makes the shot, Player 2 scores 1 point. The round finishes and restarts at Step 1 except that Player 2 now begins the round and Player 1 must rebound.
    2. If Player 2 misses the shot and the rim, Player 1 scores 1 point and must shoot from the spot where he or she rebounds the ball.
    3. If Player 2 misses the shot but hits the rim, Player 1 must shoot from the spot where he or she rebounds the ball.
  3. Repeat steps 2.1 through 2.3 until either Player 1 or 2 makes a shot.
  4. Repeat steps 1 through 4 with the person who made the last shot taking the first shot of the new round.
  5. Winner is the first to reach 21, winner must win by 2 points.
Additional Rules
  1. Players are allowed to shoot their shots with momentum.
    1. Shots with momentum must still be shot from the rebound spot (i.e. on a layup or a tip in, the player must jump from the rebound spot).
    2. "Air balls" may also scored in the following manner: If Player 1 misses both the rim and the shot, Player 2 scores 1 point. Player 1 must then re-shoot from the same spot.
  2. All shots must be legitimate shots. Missing a shot very badly for the sake of creating a difficult rebound is not allowed. Shots must be directed towards the basket.
  3. This game can be played with more than 2 players.
    1. A shooting order must be decided on before play begins.
    2. "Air balls" result in an automatic 1 point for all players except the shooter.
    3. Play always proceeds in the pre-determined order.
    4. Team Rules: Teammates alternate with the other team in the shooting order. Points scored by teammates go to the team's total. "Air balls" by the other team add 2 points to the team's score.
Strategies
  1. The first shot from the 3-point line requires the most strategy. A straight 3 is easier to make, but if you barely miss, it is an easy rebound for the other player(s).
  2. Try shooting a running 3-pointer as your first shot. It's still a makable shot, but it's less easy for the other player to anticipate the rebound.
