A week ago or so, I got in a debate with my roommate over Google and the possibility of the federal government being able to look at your searches. Today, I ran into an article that mentioned the idea that the feds could look through your computer’s files if they get their hands on Google’s new “Desktop Search.” My question for everyone is, at what cost must security come at? If you let the government look through searches and computers, the theory is that they will be better informed on terrorist activities. I disagree with the idea that the government will be looking through everyone’s materials. They will briefly, but they will be looking for specific data. But a considerable counter-argument is that the government won’t even be able to find that specific data. I don’t think this is where the government should focus its information seeking.
