I know that making fun of someone’s death is often rude and uncalled for. It can be disrespectful and can offend the family members of the deceased. However, in the case of Jerry Falwell, all I can feel is joy.

He was one of the most bigoted, idiotic men to ever curse our society. He attacked a purple Teletubbie for being too gay, blamed 9/11 on homosexuals, and somehow managed to convince all of those 700 club members that he was saying something that was worth listening to. As the CBS article points out, he helped launch the modern religious right, a political division that I am not too fond of.

His worst contribution to society was that he somehow convinced other people to believe what he believed, not allowing them to think on their own. He appealed to their inner hatred, prejudices, and fears. Like I said before, I understand that when someone passes away, their time for being criticized should draw to a close. But I want to throw out this one last shot and say good riddance to a man who did nothing but push our society backwards, far behind where we were when he first started talking.
