Big news for iPhone lovers today. The iPhone software development kit (SDK) is going to allow both free and paid applications to be released via the new “Apps” store in iTunes. Already confirmed applications includes lots of games (including a Star Fox-like shooter by Apple, Super Monkey Ball (featuring Wii-like control) and Spore (yay!) by EA) and applications (ePocrates). This is big stuff! Basically, the iPhone is now a true mobile computer. Even better, developers only have to pay a one-time $99 fee to release free apps. Apple handles the marketing and downloading worries.
One more thing: Apple will be updating the iPhone to version 2.0 to incorporate all sorts of enterprise features, including wireless calendar and contact syncing. Did I mention they received a $100 million donation for would-be developers? Very cool day for Apple…and me.
