Thank god! No more Christmas songs for another year. About time! I don’t know about the rest of you, but they definitely tire me out in a relatively short amount of time. Not that there’s not a few nostalgic favorites or an even fewer truly good versions, but most of it tends to be quite boring/repetitive.

This week’s free single is Pleasure Songs by the Mary Onettes. I’m completely unfamiliar with the band, but this is a pretty good song. It starts out nice and mellow, with a Chris Martin-esque lead singer (Coldplay). The refrain reminds me of 70s music, but with a 90’s spin. The drums are well placed and break from the usual rock monotony. Again, this is a pretty good song, although I’m not sure if I would listen to it repeatedly like some others. Well done.

As the new year approaches, I’ve decided to make the PWSSM posts a less frequent occurrence, instead of its weekly appearance. No, this does not mean that I don’t think people should be sent to Mars; rather, I’ve just run out of people about which to complain.
Enjoy your holidays!

This week’s free iTunes single is as standard as they come. Nothing about this version is offensive, but nothing really stands out either. Probably worth the download if you like Christmas music or this song, in particular.

This past weekend, Emily and I visited Moodle and Doodle to celebrate Kira’s birthday–the big 21! We had a very nice prime rib and yorkshire pudding dinner on Saturday night. On Sunday, we did a lot of Christmas decorating before heading to Watertown on Monday to do some Christms shopping. It was a great weekend and it was sad that it had to end so soon.

In the spirit of the holidays, no one should be sent to Mars. Happy Holidays everyone!

It’s another iTunes Christmas single. This one is served up by none other than Michael Bolton. Yes, his earnest, raspy voice is on display here. And I’ll tell you something, as far as this song goes, this is a nice version. Nothing objectionable, Bolton sounds good throughout the single. The song has a jazzy feel to it, which is a nice reprieve from some of the recent Christmas singles I’ve been listening to. Really, it’s not too bad.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Best Buy. They just have some really annoying policies. For example, they won’t take their own coupons unless the items aren’t already discounted. Seeing that the original price on tech items is ridiculously high, most products are already discounted. As such, you can’t hardly ever use these coupons. Very frustrating. Another example is that the staff seems to be trained only to do the one specific function that they’ve been given. So, even if there are 200 people in the TV section and only 2 “TV” employees, the employees in the other sections won’t help out at all. Great policy…

This week’s free iTunes single is another holiday tune. It’s not that it’s awful, but it talks about making love in front of the fireplace and how Mr. Sweat wants to be my Santa Clause. Yes, that’s right, Keith Sweat just turned Santa into some sort of metaphor for sex. That’s just wrong… .

Adopt a Family

The organization I’m involved with at school is sponsoring a mother and her 5-year old daughter. We hope to fundraise at least $100 per family member and will purchase them their holiday wishes, including new clothes and a few board games like Chutes and Ladders, Operation!, and Candyland.

You can donate on-line today using any major credit card by clicking on the link below. 100% of donations will be given to the Adopt A Family program.
