I received this email today:

Hey, I saw your blog about Ledisi’s new album. My favorite track is “Best Friend.” :] I work for a company called Brickfish and we’re actually holding a really cool contest with Ledisi now. It’s to design a poster for her new album, “Lost and Found”, and the prize is an iPod featuring all the songs from her new album plus getting the poster used as the actual tour poster. I thought you might be interested in sharing this info with the rest of the fans in the group. Do you have any ideas on how I can get the word out to fellow fans? I manage the swag closet here so I’d love to send you some t-shirts and other stuff if you can help! Let me know. Happy to send.
Take a look at the contest and let me know if you’re interested: http://www.brickfish.com/music/Ledisi?tab=1&=m_ledisi

So, if you thought my “C” was a bit too harsh or that I was completely off my rocker, I encourage you to check out the link and lend some support to Ledisi.

Modding your iPhone just became a lot easier with the release of AppTapp (it’s the link under “new GUI installer”). Just download the program, quit iTunes, run the installer, and select your firmware (the newest version is 1.02). After waiting about 2-3 minutes, your iPhone will have a new icon on its homescreen, Installer. Use this application to install other 3rd party applications directly to the homescreen, including Doom, an NES emulator, a program to add songs as ringtones, and even a “Lights Out” game. Installer will keep track of when these programs need updating and even lets your uninstall and reinstall applications whenever the need arises. Good luck and have fun modding your iPhone.

Alright by Ledisi

This week’s iTunes free single is “Alright” by Ledisi. A nice jazzy, rhythm and blues single, Ledisi has a smooth voice, reminding me of some of the more successful singers from that genre. The lyrics are somewhat typcial of the genre and it lacks any real draw besides its overall smoothness. Overall, while not exactly my genre of music, I still don’t think there’s anything really original or exciting here.

As a side note, you can pick up Paul McCartney’s “Nod Your Head” single and video for free in addition to Bruce Springsteen’s “Radio Nowhere” single. Both come with higher recommendations than “Alright.”

This week’s personality profile is:

SUNY Albany Administrators

Why? Because, unlike last year, the semester starts before Labor day. Last year, we started school in September. This year, Emily and I had to hurry home after our annual Maine trip and get ready for school, which starts tomorrow. Tomorrow!! That’s just too early.

Speaking of which, I should get to bed so that I can get my learning cap on.

This week’s iTunes free single is “Song for the Fields” by Fields. It instantly reminds me of a 60’s tune, with some great choruses. However, it is is still very modern–a beautifully done combination of two different decades of music. A pulsating beat keeps the song going strong and the lyrics are catchy, if not exactly memorable. The end of the song is somewhat psychedelic, but then leads into a fairly boring repetion of “you’re not the only one.” Not a great song, but not bad at all.

Today we checked out the new section of Acadia National Park on the Schoodic Point side. We hiked the Sun Dew Trail, which lasted about . 7 miles. There was a nice side path to an “ocean bench” and we stayed there for about 30 minutes, exploring the rocky terrain. It was a pretty fun hike!

Bar Harbor

Yesterday, Carline, Diddy, Emily and I went to Bar Harbor to do a little shopping and eating. Of course, we just had to stop at Ben & Bill’s for a little fudge and candy.

Golf Again!

Today, before my friends arrive for the weekend, my dad and I hit the links again. For the second time in a row, we both beat our previous scores (shooting 11 and 9 over par respectively). The nice thing is that there’s still room for improvement in the scores as we each missed some easy putts and shots.

After my dad got home from work, we decided that the weather was nice enough for 9 holes of golf. What a nice evening indeed! My dad set himself up for par on the first five holes and my score improved tremendously. As an added bonus, the sunset was truly spectacular.

Golfing

After Lynn and Troy left, my dad and I went out to play a round of golf at Grindstone, one of the oldest golf courses in the U.S. I didn’t play very well, but my dad did and we both enjoyed playing, the nice weather, and each other’s company.
