I don’t mean to sound “unpatriotic,” but is anyone else getting really worried about us going to war with Iran? I understand why there is concern and, unlike with Iraq, I think the concern is warranted. But is war going to be the answer to a possible nuclear threat? See, the simple solution would be that we all just get rid of our nuclear weapons. Of course, if we do that, we run the risk of another nation keeping some hidden away. Seeing that it’s not a good solution, that leaves the other possibility–making sure that no rogue states get their hands on any weapons of mass destruction. But the problem with that is that an ally today may be an enemy tomorrow and vice versa. So, this is why I’m worried. I don’t want to go to war with Iran. So, if you’re listening Iran, please stop working on nuclear projects. I have no beef with you, I just don’t want something bad to happen. And no, that’s not a threat. I’m just worried that with an administration that is perhaps “incapable” of properly communicating, we’ll end up resorting to physical force rather than trying to negotiate.
Alright, this needs to be said. Last night, we lost to Seton Hall, a team we should have beaten. Many have blamed it on the players. I agree, we don’t have the best players in the country. But they aren’t that bad. The problem is with our coaching. Yes yes, Jim Boeheim is a Hall of Fame coach and deserves a lot of respect. However, he makes dumb decisions. Instead of pulling a struggling Watkins (our center) and put in Matt Gorman, a player who can actually catch the ball, Boeheim stuck with Watkins. To make matters worse, with the game tied and 1:30 left in the game, Boeheim took us off the press and made the team to a zone defense, which had struggled with Seton Hall’s offense all night. Now, should the players have made more shots? Yes! But that wasn’t the only reason. Boeheim needs to re-evaluate the importance of a zone defense in an era where teams are nailing 3-point shots. I hope other students agree with me that the coaching was at fault this season. All being said, let’s go Orange!
Emily has recently introduced me to Gilmore Girls. Like Friends, it’s another show that I never really gave a chance. While the dialogue is unrealistically snappy, the show is well-written and enjoyable. Add it to my list of shows like Lost, House, Friends, Desperate Housewives, and Law & Order: SVU for reasons why TV is worth watching. And by the way, I’m sure that Gilmore Girls will make it to the “CW,” the new network that has been formed following the merge of the WB and UPN. I think they should have stuck with the WB.
If you have a Mac, I highly recommend the EyeTV Ez. It lets you hookup your TV, video game console, or video camera directly to your computer. It even accesses TitanTV’s program listing to create an electronic program guide. And yes, you can record TV directly onto your Mac’s hard drive.
I ran across this article when I was reading about some video games. Interesting isn’t it? Do you agree with the notion that we should tax what we want to destroy? I think the argument actually has its merits…feel free to comment.
4 year ago, I came to the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. For the first time since I was accepted, I have seen something that makes me want to make films again. Check this out!
For those of you who have come to my home, you know that I live near a campground. Well, the campground’s owner’s brother is also a very successful man who founded the Pajaro Jai Foundation. Check out the website for information about the foundation’s ship and its current journey.
On Tuesday, the first Apple computers with Intel chips were announced. This was big news for Apple fans as it meant that the computers would run a lot faster than the previous computers based on IBM’s PowerPC chips. However, it does present one problem–hackers have already figured out how to run OS X on Windows-based PCs.
I love Apple hardware, so I will probably stick to buying Apple computers. However, I am worried about the longterm effects of having OS X available on Windows-based computers. I am also worried about the effects of being able to dualboot Windows on Apple computers. What effects will this have on security? What about the effects on specialized markets like Mac Gaming–will it destroy that industry if people can just boot into Windows to play games?
Ultimately, only time will tell the effects of switching. It could be limited to the area of hackers or it could be a fullblown solution. As I have already said, the strength of the Apple platform is the abiliity to control everything–only a few types of PCs, Apple-developed software, etc. As for now, I will stick with my PowerPC based computers and see what the future holds for the Apple platform.
Alright, so the Bush administration *sort of* acted on Iran. Condi Rice said that a “strong message needs to be sent to Iran.” Well, actually, we should send that strong message. I’m not encouraging us to intrude on the world’s problems, but we appear to do that anyway. So, yes, if we’re going to act the role of the courageous “global police,” then we should send the message immediately. After all, we attacked Iraq because of their secret goat mafia (aka lack of any WMDs), so we must be scared of Iran and nuclear weapons…or wait, could there have been another goal to Iraq?! Dear me….
I ran across this article and thought it touched on some important issues. People are noisy, rude, and annoying at nearly every movie now. So what can be done? Not only jam cell phone signals like the article suggests, but throw people out with no refund! Have assigned seating too, so you know exactly who is being noisy. And yes, it’s not just young people. That middle-aged woman that needs to give the entire summary of the movie to her partner…throw them out too! Enforce the rules, it’s not like movie theatres have that much to lose!
